The daylighting design is consciously connected to the spatial design of
the project, particularly due to the inherent interconnection between
view (out) and light (in). The architectural design intent
encourages a fluid inside/outside relationship, including sliding doors
and thoughtfully placed windows (for light, air, and view). This
interior/exterior spatial relationship is essential given the project's
economical space. The intention is to project a feeling of expansion
from the inside by providing a strong visual and physical connection to
the greater outdoors. The architectural material surfaces are
intentionally light colored to encourage light reflectance in order to
enhance a sense of spaciousness.
The electric lighting is designed to be efficient, effective, and
unobtrusive: ambient luminescence with a touch of focal glow. The chosen
lighting technologies include fluorescent, compact fluorescent, and
light emitting diodes (LED); dimming technology is utilized where
appropriate for energy savings and user control. Throughout the house,
the style of the luminaries is intended to be subdued and contemporary
in harmony with the architectural design.
