Solar Cal Poly is the only team from California participating in the 2005 Solar Decathlon. For Cal Poly, this project has been an educational vehicle for hands-on collaborative learning and student empowerment through the mastery of skills, as demonstrated through a realized design project. For the past two years it has stimulated thinking and sparked creative dialogue among students and faculty at Cal Poly. Through the Renewable Energy Club, it has brought together students from at least a dozen disciplines across our campus that have collaborated to take this project from an idea all the way through construction, delivery, use and evaluation. Along the way it has sparked discussion on the dimensions of sustainability and helped students productively organize around a common cause, while generating new sources of community support for Cal Poly.
